Tamale Ecclesiastical Province Pastoral Conference (TEPPCON)
The membership of TEPPCON comprises the Bishops of the five dioceses in the Tamale Ecclesiastical Province, appointed and delegated members representing priests, religious and the laity. The Archbishop of Tamale is the president of TEPPCON and as such the first president of TEPPCON was Most Rev. Peter Porekuu Dery. He was succeeded by Most Rev. Gregory Ebo Kpiebaya and currently the president of TEPPCON is Most Rev. Philip Naameh who was installed as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale in 2009.
TEPPCON is a joint instrument of coordination of the pastoral activities of the five dioceses in the Province. It was established in 1981 and functions as an umbrella organization that coordinates the activities of ten different commissions. It takes care of the major areas of pastoral concern as well as the partnership activities with Munster Diocese in Germany. The motivation for the establishment of TEPPCON was the homogeneity of the people in the area of Northern Ghana and as such many pastoral activities could be carried out more effectively and at less cost if they are done jointly. Thus, the Bishops identified the need to build up a Conference that would provide a forum for the pastoral needs of the Province. Since then, the conference has remained a forum and an effective instrument of discussing and addressing the pastoral, social, economic and political issues that affect the people in Northern Ghana.
