VISIT BY DELAGATION FROM THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES (KatHO)

A delegation from the Catholic University of Applied Sciences (KatHO), Koeln, Germany visited the Archbishop and President of TEPPCON, Most Rev. Philip Naameh on January 7, 2020 in Tamale. This meeting was a special request by the KatHO team and arranged by Dr. Martin N. Adokiya, a Senior Lecturer with the University for Development Studies, Tamale, Ghana. The meeting with the Archbishop is part of the delegation’s mission to nourish Church contacts. The delegation was in the Province on an official partnership visit to the University for Development Studies.

The delegation included the following persons:
• Prof. Dr. Hans Hobelsberger – Rector
• Prof. Dr. Anke Helmbold – Health Sciences, Vice Dean
• Prof. Dr. Martin Winands – Social Sciences, Paderborn
• Mr. Bernward Robrecht – CEO and Chancellor
• Ms. Helene Hofmann – Head of International Office

The Catholic University of Applied Sciences (KatHO) is based on the Apostolic Constitutions “Ex corde ecclesiae” and “Veritatis Gaudium” Their Guiding principles are: Building a Christian sense of character and personality in its students. A Place of open academic exchange with other beliefs and value orientations, organized as a private non-profit company (GmbH) Their Partners are: the Dioceses of North-Rhine Westphalia. The University is acknowledged by the state and financed by public resources yearly.

The University has six faculties in the fields of – Social Services – Health Science – Catholic Theology 21-degree programmes (Bachelor / Master) 6 research institutes and 2 research units, Network of Transfer for Social Innovation. The areas of interest for partnership include: Nursing, Internship, Teacher Training Colleges, Scholarships and Exchange Programmes.

Archbishop’s briefing.
His Grace Most Rev. Philip Naameh gave an overview of the Province with focus on education, health and vocational institutions. He also highlighted potential areas of collaboration with the KatHO delegation. The Inter-Religious Dialogue programme, peace and conflict management programmes and upcoming counselling for women and girls programmes were also discussed. The Archbishop also presented TEPPCON and the work of its commissions. The Archbishop further stated TEPPCON’s readiness to collaborate with their NGO wing.

Prof Elias Sowley briefed the delegation on the work of the laity in Ghana and in the Province, He specifically highlighted the areas of contribution of the laity and also explained areas of possible collaboration.

At the meeting were: Dr. Martin Adokiya, Prof Sowley; the national Laity Council Chairman, Dame Agnes Gandaa, Executive Secretary of TEPPCON, Rev Sis Donata Kanmwaa and Fr. Phanuel SVD

The delegation visited the St. Lucy Polyclinic and had good discussions with the staff.
